Examination Syllabus

The revised MICPA programme comprises 5 modules.

The four technical modules, which can be completed in any order, provide candidates with a solid understanding of the core accounting areas and Ethics & Business Application, the final module of the revised MICPA programme, consolidates their learning from the technical modules and draws heavily on their work experience. Candidates will focus on applying what they've learned to solve real business problems.

Overview of content

A brief description of the key content areas of each module is as follows:

Taxation (pdf, 164KB)
Provides a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of the Malaysian taxation system and relevance of taxation to personal and business decision making. Candidates are expected to display an in-depth understanding of the impact of all major taxes on the transactions of individuals, companies and special undertakings and be able to identify, discuss and advise on the tax issues in a particular situation as well as planning opportunities to minimise potential tax liabilities. The module also covers topics on investment incentives and indirect taxation.

Audit & Assurance (pdf, 291KB)
This module explains the framework for auditing and assurance. The content will include topics such as legal and professional requirements, conducting audits, risk, fraud, internal controls, ethics, reporting and assurance and audit related engagements.

Financial Accounting & Reporting (pdf, 260KB)
Candidates will gain an understanding of the framework for financial accounting, and be able to identify and apply fundamental standards and pronouncement. The content will include topics such as disclosures and consolidated financial reporting, cash flow statements and the practical application and understanding of ethics.

Management Accounting & Analysis (pdf, 293KB)
In this module, candidates will apply the core concepts of management and strategic accounting. The content will include topics such as forecasting and budgeting with decision tools and investment analysis tools and techniques, corporate finance and risk management, strategic planning and analysis, ethics and corporate governance, and performance reporting.

Ethics and Business Application (pdf, 293KB)
Providing a consolidation of the learning from the technical modules, this module draws heavily on candidates' work experience to apply what they have learnt to solve real business problems.

On successful completion of the final module, candidates will be eligible to apply for membership with MICPA and ICAA provided they have obtained at least 3 years of approved practical experience.
