Applicants for admission to membership under bye-law 34(1)(f) of the Institute’s bye-laws are required to pass the MICPA Admitting Examination comprising of two papers – Malaysian Taxation and Regulatory & Financial Reporting Framework of Malaysia.
These two papers may be taken in the same or separate sitting. A candidate who passed one of the two papers in a sitting shall be awarded a provisional pass in that paper which is valid only for 3 years following the sitting at which the provisional pass was awarded. Candidates sitting for the Admitting Examination are not required to register as a student of the Institute.
Full members of the approved accounting bodies who have acquired adequate working knowledge of Malaysian company and securities laws and taxation law may apply for exemption from sitting for the MICPA Admitting Examination. The criteria for exemption are as follows:
- The applicant must be a full member of an approved accounting body.
- The applicant must have obtained at least five years of approved accountancy experience after admission as a full member of any of the approved accountancy bodies, of which not less than three years must have been obtained in Malaysia.
- The applicant must satisfy the Council as to his level of knowledge of Malaysian company and securities laws and taxation law.
